Man, 25, charged with murder of three-year-old boy in Melaka


MELAKA: A 25-year-old man is facing a murder charge over the death of a three-year-old boy.

However, no plea was recorded when the charge was read to Muhammad Firman Hakimie Abdul Rahman before Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman in Ayer Keroh on Tuesday (July 18).

Murder cases are under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused allegedly murdered the child at a house in Jalan PE 15, Taman Paya Emas, Cheng in the Melaka Tengah district between 5.30am and 6.30am on July 6.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Wardah Ishhar prosecuted while counsel Datuk Hanif Hassan represented the accused.

The court fixed Aug 23 for next mention.

The media had earlier reported that a woman's boyfriend allegedly killed her three-year-old son by hitting and kicking the child for staining a sofa at his home in Cheng here.

Meanwhile, the victim's biological mother Nurasyiqin Syaqiqah A Ramlee, 24, claimed trial at the Sessions Court here on the same day for allegedly causing physical or emotional injuries to the child.

The charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 was read before judge Darmafikri Abu Adam.

The section provides a maximum fine of RM50,000 or jail of up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.

DPP N Sivashangari prosecuted while the accused was represented by Umar Zulkarnain.

The court granted bail of RM15,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to report to the police on the first day of each month until the proceedings in her case are concluded.

The court also fixed Aug 23 for next mention.
